Breaking Bad's Walter White seems like your pretty average guy. He has a loving wife, two children (a son and a daughter), and a modest home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Like everyone else, he saw his younger dreams die and collapse into something more mundane and practical. Walter was a promising chemist at the beginning of his career, helping to form Gray Matter Technologies. He ends up walking away and the composition of his current family leads him to become a high school chemistry teacher to pay the bills—while secretly harboring jealousy for his former partners at Gray Matter who ended up making millions.

Disaster shakes his standard and insignificant world apart in the form of a terminal lung cancer diagnosis. He quickly accepts his unremarkable end but fears for his family's well-being once he is gone. To make sure the bills are paid upon his death, Walter decides to use his chemistry knowledge to become a dealer of methamphetamine.
